i heart faces- Best Face Photo of 2010

The theme for this week's contest at i heart faces is "Best Face Photo of 2010".  I have taken a bagillion photos over the past year and have lots and lots of favorites.  I have definitely grown over the year when it comes to photography so my "style" did change over the year...which is good, very good.  I chose this photo of Amber because it is absolutely lovely.  Love the texture, love the gorgeous Amber and her fabulous freckles, it's kind of edgy, it's one of my favs.  And during this week's contest, YOU get to decide who wins.  That's right, YOU get to vote on your fav, so please go on over to i heart faces and check out all the awesome entries....then vote for mine? Por favor? :)

Voting starts at noon CST and closes Friday at 5:00pm CST.

Thanks and have a fabulous day! :)

I Heart Faces- "Then and Now"

This week's photo challenge theme over at I Heart Faces is "Then and Now".  After flipping through old photo albums at my mom's house, I realized that in most of the pictures I was either crying, naked, eating, or in my underwear....so this was a little tough.  There are some brave brave souls who entered this contest in their red tight superman underwear, but not I.  Sorry...  But here is my entry for Then and Now.  The original photo was taken by my mom when I was 2 years old.

Now, please go check out the other entries at I Heart Faces.  They are HILARIOUS! :)

Have a fabulous day!

I Heart Faces "Smiles" Photo Challenge

This week's theme at I Heart Faces is Smiles.  Pretty easy huh?  I had lots and lots of smiles to choose from, but chose this particular photo for an important reason.  Tamika's husband Ron is getting ready to deploy to Afghanistan very soon, and I wanted to send a little "smile" their way.  Please take a moment to send thoughts and prayers to them and their family and to all the other brave men and women who are serving our country.  Stay safe Ron and hurry home!

I Heart Faces- Fix it Friday

SO even though Friday is almost over, I wanted to participate in I Heart Faces Fix it Friday.  I usually don't get to "partake" in Fix it Friday because I am at work, but I have been editing in Photoshop for the last few hours, so why not do one more for fun! Here is my take on editing this lovely little girl in the snow.

The Original Photo

My Edit

I loved the texture of her hat and scarf so I didn't want to crop the image.....and I just cleaned it up a bit and added some black and white to make the snowflakes pop....and there you go.  :)

Okay time to go to bed....Good Night!

I Heart Faces - "Collages" Photo Contest

This week's photo challenge over at I Heart Faces is "Collages".  I LOVE photo collages!  I have been making photo collages since high school.  These came in handy when I went away to college and when I moved away from home and started my first "adult" job.  From decorating my dorm room to my office, photo collages are a great way to capture a "theme" all in one.  And most importantly, have helped me whenever I have had a bad spell of  "home sick".  So of course I jumped at this week's challenge.  Just one problem, I had never used Photoshop to create a collage, so that was a new challenge for me.  Overall, I think it turned out good and I really enjoyed learning something new.  Here is a photo collage of the adorable Chase and his adventures of wagon pushing and bubbles!  Enjoy!

Make sure to go on over to I Heart Faces and check out everyone's awesome photo collages!

Have a fabulous day!

I Heart Faces - "My Story In Photos: Dessert Recipe Edition"

Blueberry Sour Cream Coffee Cake

This week's I Heart Faces theme is "My Story In Photos: Dessert Recipe Edition".  We are to include and share one of our favorite dessert recipes.  We all know (well you do now) my favorite dessert is Red Velvet Cake, which I have made many many times.  But since yesterday was Easter, I decided to try a new recipe and made a  Blueberry Sour Cream Coffee Cake .  This recipe was easy to follow and it turned out perfectly.  AND most importantly, it was very tastey.  Here is a step-by-step "dessert documentation."

Enjoy!

Set rack in the middle of your oven and preheat to 350*F

Butter a 10" bundt pan and lightly dust the inside with flour.

Cream together sugar and butter until light and fluffy.

Add eggs, blend well.

Add sour cream

Add vanilla, then mix until combined.

In a seperate bowl, add flour, baking soda, and salt

Whisk dry ingredients together.

Gently fold the flour mixture into the batter.

Reserve 1/2 cup of batter and mix with 3/4 of the jar of blueberry jam.

Set mixture aside.  (It's purple!..hehe...)

Pour 3/4 remaining batter into the prepared pan.

Create a slight "trough" through the batter with a spatula.
(This was the hardest part of the whole recipe)

Gently spoon the blueberry mix into the batter "trough".
(I need to work on my "troughing" skills...)

Pout the remaining batter over the jam and smooth the top.

Bake for about 60 minutes, or until the sides of the cake pull away from the pan and a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.

Cool on a wire rack for at least 30 minutes.
(I do not have a wire rack..so I used every hot pad I had...works like a charm)

Turn onto a plate, and then sprinkle with powdered sugar and drizzle with remaining jam.

Because I love cake stands and find any excuse to use one, I placed 3 sheets of wax paper over the cake stand.  Then placed the cake on top.

I then heated the remaining jam in the microwave for 15 seconds, then brushed on remaining jam as a glaze.

Covering the entire surface.

Then sprinkle powdered sugar over the top.
(I do not have a sifter or a strainer...so I used a cheese grater...think outside the box...)

Remove wax paper...THEN...

TAH DAH!  Blueberry Sour Cream Coffee Cake!  Modeled by my gorgeous milk glass cake stand. :)

Perfect with your favorite flavored coffee (mine is french vanilla or creme brulee).
And a scoop of vanilla ice cream... :)

ENJOY!

Have a fabulous day!
